Savages

Savages

The snarling reincarnation of Post-Punk and No-Wave seemed to die upon it’s knees some years ago, as the sharp, pristine and almost industrial sound of the 1970s was replaced by a surge in grunge revivalism and 90s aesthetics, Gang Of Four’s influence moved way for Nirvana’s and their flannel shirts and converse took over from the more formal shirts and shoes adorned by the earlier movement. However, for the first time in recent years that savage (no pun intended) bite is back in the form of Savages, a London, female-led pack of post-punk dogs who are snarling and sneering with venomous bite. Early footage of their live shows triggered a wave of excitement; as their brash, visceral guitar stabs seemed to ring clear a new found angst and angular crunch, perhaps paving the way for others to follow (once again). A secretive band, for months they didn’t release anything on record, people could only bask in awe of said live performances, managing to create a remarkable sense of anticipation and build up in an age which rarely seems possible to do so anymore. However, the band is now out in full force, with both recordings (albeit a handful) and a UK tour that will see them take in many cities and festivals this summer.
